Everyone is ready for Spring. With the dark cold days behind us, it's time to start our cleaning and give our homes a fresh, happy start to Spring.

Clean the Gutters and Rid the Clutter
Time to get that ladder from storage. Debris can accumulate over the Winter, so now is a good time to check it out. With gloves on, remove as much as you can. Any debris remaining can be loosened and removed with a garden hose. Don't forget about the elbows, put the hose into the downspout to get at it all.

Filter Maintenance
Check and replace filters as necessary. Your furnace has been running all winter and a filter change may be in order. A clean filter will guarantee optimal performance from your unit and ensure healthy indoor air quality.

If you have air conditioning you can also clean the outdoor condensing unit with a garden hose with a spray attachment. (Make sure the unit is turned off, and let it drip dry for at least 1 hour before powering it up again.)

When replacing your filter keep in mind they vary in price and function. Your local hardware store will provide you with the best filter to suit your needs.

Wash Your Windows
With the days getting longer and the sun shining brightly, let's maximize all the natural light we can. You will be happy you put the effort in when you're looking through spot and dirt free windows at the beauty Spring brings. This is also a great opportunity to check for any damage to screens.

Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Your family's safety and well being is of the utmost importance. Make sure to check and/or change the batteries of all your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. This should be done at least once a year, so bundle it in with your Spring to do’s.

Be Thorough
Lastly, it's a good time to give the house a deep clean. A good scrub in the bathroom, kitchen, living room and bedrooms, including baseboards and light fixtures. It's a big job, but will leave you feeling accomplished and ready to relax and enjoy the rest of the season.
